Gorodovikov, a laureate of the 2016 prize from the “Ballet” magazine in the “Knight of Folk Dance” category, a holder of the Order of Friendship, and a Hero of Kalmykia.

Pyotr Nadbitov is a graduate of the State Academic Choreographic School named after A. Ya. Vaganova and the Moscow State Institute of Culture; today, he is a living legend of the choreographic art of the Mongolian‑speaking peoples.
Pyotr Timofeevich began his career on stage as an ordinary ballet dancer with the Kalmyk State Song and Dance Ensemble “Tulpan”. Soon he became one of the leading soloists, and then the artistic director and chief ballet master of the ensemble. It was at “Tulpan” that P. T. Nadbitov made a name for himself as a professional ballet master. His first productions, “Tuula bi” (“The Hare’s Dance”), “Cranes,” “The Bogatyrs,” “Chicherdyk,” and “Derbetovsky Tavshur,” became part of the golden treasury of Russian dance art.

The year 1990 was a turning point in his life: Pyotr Nadbitov created his own dance ensemble on a self‑sustaining basis, which was soon reorganized into the State Dance Theatre “Oiraty.” It was here, at “Oiraty,” that his talent as a choreographer fully revealed itself. The musical and choreographic performances created by him – “Friend of the Kalmyk Steppes”, “The Great Silk Road”, “Journey through the East and the Himalayas”, “Pushkin and the Kalmyk Woman” — became not only an event in the cultural life of the Republic of Kalmykia, but also a bold experiment, a new word, a step forward in the development of Russian folk dance art..

The genre of folk stage dance is beyond ideology, it is relevant at all times. Peter Nadbitov’s work is original and unique. This is a truly national stage work, characterized by a respectful and at the same time innovative development of the traditional heritage of the master with a capital letter. He not only created his own theater, but also a new form in Kalmyk choreography, combining the past with the present. Each dance is a colorful story, a lively narrative, a page of the history of the Kalmyk people.

P.T. Nadbitov pays great attention to the issue of preservation and continuity of folk cultural traditions. To this end, he created a Kalmyk dance studio for children at the Oiraty Theater and educated a whole galaxy of students, associates and followers.

Peter Timofeevich Nadbitov is full of creative ideas, new ideas, and faith in the limitless possibilities of choreography.
